Author Biography

Francine J. Vecchiolla, PhD, Dean and Professor of  Social Work at Springfield College School of Social Work, Springfield Massachusetts. She obtained her MSW from University of Connecticut School of Social Work, and her PhD from the Heller School of Policy and Management, Brandeis University. She received post-master's training at Yale Child Study Center, Child Development Clinic. Dr. Vecchiolla completed the Social Work Leadership Institute, New York Academy of Medicine and the Management Development Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dr. Vecchiolla teaches Social Work Supervision, Administration and Child Welfare. She practiced in maternal and child health and child welfare.  She co-authored books on Child Welfare and Advanced Generalist Practice, and is a recipient of the NASW CT Chapter Distinguished Social Worker of the Year Award. Dr. Vecchiolla chaired the New England Deans and Directors of Schools of Social Work and is past chair of the Council on Leadership Development for the Council on Social Work Education. Dr. Vecchiolla is currently on the boards of the Behavioral Health Network and Partners for a Healthier Community.

 

Walter J. Mullin, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Social Work at Springfield College School of Social Work, Springfield, Massachusetts received his MSW from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work and earned his Ph.D. from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. He completed a Post Master’s Certificate Program in Intensive Individual Treatment at Smith College School for Social Work. Dr. Mullin teaches courses in Practice, Human Behavior and the Social Environment, and Social Work Practice with Families. He co-chairs the Area of Emphasis in Adult Mental Health, and is the lead instructor in the Post-Master’s Certificate Program in Advanced Practice with Children and Adolescents. Dr. Mullin is editor of the school’s journal entitled Journal of Advanced Generalist Social Work Practice.  He has practiced for over thirty years in child mental health, adult mental health and child welfare and currently practices with adults and families. Dr. Mullin writes on clinical practice and family resiliency. Dr. Mullin conducts workshops on best practices with suicidal clients, which is also an area of his research.

 

Ann W. Roy, Ph.D., Professor of Social Work at Springfield College School of Social Work in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Roy received her MSW from Louisiana State University and her PhD from Case Western Reserve University. She teaches courses in research methods and statistics, program evaluation, social welfare policy and gerontology. She is the former chair of the research sequence, a position she held for over a decade, and is currently co-chair of the Area of Emphasis in Gerontology. Dr. Roy co-authored a text book on Advanced Generalist Practice and authored two chapters on older adultsfor a first and second edition of: Human Behavior and the Social Environment, Theory and Practice. Her research interests are also in the field of gerontology where she has published in refereed journals. Her current research includes a pilot study in China and Boston on Chinese elders and depression and she has presented the results at national and international conferences.
