Summary

Most of the documentation on local area networks (LANs) is written for use with a specific vendor, but large scale LAN designs often use networking products from many different vendors. This book shows how to create the architecture for networks encompassing groups of large companies with multiple vendors. Designing Large Scale LANs shows network administrators how to determine network specifications based on business requirements (a practice known as "top-down design"), and then explores philosophically and technically how to design a network that meets those specifications. This book details the skills required to become a network architect, which in many organisations is the most senior networking position.

Author Biography

Kevin Dooley is an independent networking consultant who has been designing and implementing networks for more than ten years. In that time he has built large scale Local and Wide Area Networks for several of Canada's largest companies. He holds a PhD in physics from the University of Toronto and is the author of Designing Large-Scale LANs.
