Author Biography

Liat Ben-Moshe holds a PhD in Sociology, with concentrations in Women Studies and Disability Studies, from Syracuse University and is currently a Postdoctoral fellow at the department of Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Chris Chapman is Assistant Professor at York University's School of Social Work. Chapman researches histories, rationales and practices of the 'helping professions' by mobilizing perspectives of those who have been subjected to them, and thus draws heavily on Disability Studies, Critical Race Theory, Anti-colonial Studies, Prison Abolitionist, Queer, and Feminist critiques of social services.

Allison C. Carey is Associate Professor of Sociology at Shippensburg University, and served as Coordinator of Research at Temple University's Institute on Disabilities from 2000-2004. Her 2009 book, On the Margins of Citizenship: Intellectual Disability and Civil Rights in 20th Century America (Temple University Press), examines the debates related to civil rights for people with intellectual disabilities, and won the 2010 Scholarly Achievement Award from the North Central Sociological Association.
