Excerpts

On a map, Cape Cod resembles a strongman's flexed arm, with Falmouth on the triceps, Chatham at the elbow and Provincetown the clenched fist. Many New Englanders equate Cape Cod with Summer, as it has been the holiday spot of choice for nearly a century. The finest recreational beaches in the Northeast attract literally millions of visitors to a region with a winter population in tens of thousands. Yet much of the Cape remains seemingly deserted, a landscape of windswept dunes and relentless surf, or of tranquil farmland dotted with windmills and saltbox houses. Depending on the town, Cape Cod can spell days of indolence in the sun or non-stop partying, dining and shopping.
