Author Biography

About the Authors FIONA DUNLOP Fiona Dunlop's taste for the tropics, for ancient cultures and for developing countries has been tested to the full while writing travel books on Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Costa Rica and Mexico. Before her immersion in this peripatetic lifestyle, she spent 15 years in Paris where she worked in, and wrote about, the arts for numerous art and interior design magazines. Now based in London, she continues to cover contemporary design between her travels. Her articles have appeared in the Observer, the Sunday Times, The Times, Elle Decoration, and Homes & Gardens amongst others. JANE EGGINTON Jane Egginton is a travel writer and researcher who writes magazine features as well as guide books. Jane has written for many publishers including Reader's Digest and Thomas Cook, and was a winner in the Observer Young Travel Writer of the Year Award. Jane has travelled extensively throughout Britain, Asia, Australasia and the Americas, both for work and for pleasure. Central and South America remain favourite destinations both for their beautiful, varied landscapes and for the adventures and activities they offer. She is currently writing a guide book to Mexico. CARL PENDLE Carl Pendle studied photography and creative writing whilst at university in America. After graduating, he returned home to England, first working as a newspaper photographer and then as a copywriter for an advertising agency. He's been a freelance travel writer and photographer since 1991 and has recently become a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers. During his assignment in Central America, he braved hurricane Mitch in a single-engined plane in Nicaragua, so swimming with sharks in Belize was no problem. Carl's work has also appeared in GQ, Active, Maxim, Washington Post and the Independent. STEVE WATKINS Photographer and writer Steve Watkins specialises in covering adventure travel, extreme sports and cultural issues, especially if it involves his favourite destinations—Latin America and Australia, where he lived for four years. His work has featured in numerous magazines, newspapers, books and corporate brochures, including Wanderlust, Traveller, Travellers Handbook, No Limits World, Global Adventure, Mountain Biking UK, and various BBC publications, and his photographs have been widely exhibited, including at London's Barbican gallery. He has recently finished writing Adventure Sports Europe, to be published by Queensgate Publishing in spring 2000. He is now based in South Wales.
