Summary

Most people look at construction sites and machinery and see nothing more than concrete and steel. When Stephen Mallon turns his lens on them, he sees both a surreal beauty and the wonder of their engineering. Industrial/Landscape Photographs turns the decks of colossal ships into stunning photographs that astound with the immensity of their subjects. As an industrial photographer, Mallon seeks out abandoned ships, plane crash wreckages, and power plants. Naturally, he was drawn to the Metropolitan Transit Authority's recycling project, where they retired 2,500 subway cars into the ocean to help rebuild the underwater reefs. The unbelievable photographs were captured moments before the mass transit vessels sunk beneath the waves. These subway cars and other man-made structures have a surprising beauty that Mallon teases out, allowing viewers to reflect on how functional engineering can be so neatly tied to design.
