In many development contexts, there are a wide range of different agencies and arrangements constituting a virtual universe of development institutions, all of which deserve attention for their role in the politics of resource mobilization, allocation, and extraction. The premise of this book is that critical assessment of development policies and initiatives requires examining the institutional arrangements that give shape to specific patterns of interaction, relations of power, and distribution of burdens and benefits.
