Author Biography

MARGARET WISE BROWN (1910–1952), best known as the author of Goodnight Moon, wrote countless children’s books inspired by her belief that the very young were fascinated by the simple pleasures of the world around them. Among her many bestselling Golden Book titles are Mister Dog, The Color Kittens, The Golden Egg Book, Seven Little Postmen, and The Sailor Dog.

ALICE AND MARTIN PROVENSEN began to illustrate children’s books together in 1946, many of them for Golden Books: The Fuzzy Ducking; The Golden Book of Fun and Nonsense; The Golden Treasury of Myths and Legends; The Iliad and the Odyssey; and The Color Kittens, one of the most beloved Golden Books ever. The Provensens won the Caldecott Medal in 1984 for The Glorious Flight, which they also wrote. Martin Provensen passed away in 1987.

GUSTAF TENGGREN illustrated some of the most iconic Little Golden Books of all time, including The Saggy Baggy Elephant, Tawny Scrawny Lion, and The Shy Little Kitten.

GARTH WILLIAMS brought to life some of the best-loved children’s books of the twentieth century, including E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little. He also illustrated many classic Little Golden Books, including Baby Farm Animals, The Sailor Dog, and The Kitten Who Thought He Was a Mouse.
