Verónica es una profesora argentina radicada en París que está profesionalmente estancada y acaba de tener un hijo. En medio de esta crisis, decide indagar en un tema sobre el que piensa escribir un libro: las vidas de unas mujeres que la interpelan. Ellas formaron parte de un suceso real poco conocido: la creación de una comunidad naturista a inicios del siglo XX en Suiza que promovió movimientos tan vigentes hoy como el feminismo, la libertad sexual, el poliamor o el antibelicismo. Ellas también buscaron una utopía, fueron hippies antes del 68, se dedicaron al arte, a la danza y a la literatura. Fueron las brujas de Monte Verità. Para avanzar con su investigación y alejarse de casa, Verónica emprende un viaje con dos amigas a las montañas de Ascona. Allí, una serie de descubrimientos la llevan a replantearse su propio camino.

Verónica is a professor from Argentina living in Paris and in a career rut. A new mother, her unconditional love for her baby can’t make up for the feeling that becoming a parent has effectively ended her freedom. She distracts herself by researching a subject she has considered turning into a book: the lives of a fascinating group of women who were the protagonists of a little-known episode in history.
In the early twentieth century, Monte Verità in Switzerland was home to an alternative, back-to-nature community that espoused trends that were ahead of their time, including feminism, sexual freedom, polyamory and pacifism. The women who founded it were in search of a utopia; hippies decades before the 1960s, they devoted themselves to art, dance and literature, becoming known as the Witches of Monte Verità.
To continue her research and find an escape from domestic routine, Verónica invites two friends to join her on a trip to the mountains of Ascona, the site of the experimental community. There, she makes a series of discoveries that cause her to reframe her own live.
A combination of fiction and essay, The Witches of Monte Verità interweaves the stories of women who, while separated by time and geography, strive for the same ideal and reflect on the constraints of love and motherhood.
