Summary

Most of the stories in the collection are no longer than a paragraph, and some consist of a single sentence. At once allegorical and didactic, these microstories are populated by strange humans as well as anthropomorphic animals, natural elements, and all kinds of human creations. In contrast to more traditional fables, these stories involve dark messages and secrets that are difficult to identify and provoke a sense of strangeness—but others are surprising in their clarity and precision.
