Summary

Written for the native people of Massachusetts by John Eliot in 1666, this monumental early inguistic work was intended as a basis for teaching the Algonquian-speaking people to read the Bible, which Eliot had translated into Algonquian in 1661. Today, ironically, the book written almost 350 years ago by a Puritan minister is one of the few remnants of a language long-lost, and the basis for modern Native-Americans to rediscover an important part of their heritage. This edition contains both a facsimile of the original side-by-side with a reset version in modern type.
