Summary

The Swiss artist Manon has been a pioneer of female body and performance art since the 1970s. With her sensuous environments and installations she made a spectacular first appearance in the art world in 1974. In particular her radical performances and conceptual photographic series, such as La dame au cr'ne rasé, were much recognised internationally also beyond the art world. From the beginning of her career, and long before so many artists took them up as do today, the construction of identities, sexuality and gender stereotypes have been important issues in Manon's work. This is the first comprehensive monograph on this important contemporary artist, including the entire range of her work, from the first fetish images and her performances and installations to the most recent and previously neither shown nor published photographic series. Essays are written by internationally renowned curators and critics, such as Jean-Christophe Ammann, Amelia Jones, Jörg Heiser and others.
