Folklorist and oral historian Sarah Bryan offers her unique perspective on the North Carolina Coast, from beach-combing and bird-watching on the Outer Banks to exploring the culture closer to the mainland. Filled with exciting outdoor excursions—like golfing in Nags Head and hiking in the Croatan National Forest—as well as information on choosing the best beaches to visit, which historic lighthouses to check out, and how the seasonal weather varies, Moon North Carolina Coast gives travelers the tools they need to create a more personal and memorable experience.

Author Biography

Jason Frye first fell in love with North Carolina’s coast as a kid when his family would leave the mountains of West Virginia for vacations to the Outer Banks. In 2002, he swapped his mountains for sand dunes and his river for an ocean when he moved to Wilmington to pursue his Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. There, something happened—his love for North Carolina deepened into a longing to stay, settle, and be a part of the people, culture, and history of his newly adopted home state

He started to explore the state in earnest with his wife, Lauren, first by kayaking the marshes and waterways near his home. Soon he was hang gliding off the Outer Banks; discovering the cityscapes of Charlotte, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem; and wandering the woods and wilds around Asheville, but the coast always called him home.

Jason’s passion for writing about his favorite state has led him to a career in freelance travel and food writing. He’s contributed stories to many of his favorite publications and websites, including VisitNC.com, AAA's Go Magazine, Our State magazine, and the Wilmington Star News, where he’s a restaurant reviewer. He also has the excellent job of being a food blogger for Our State Eats. When he’s not writing, you’ll find him in his kayak, discovering what’s around the next bend in some marsh creek.
