Summary

Imagine if the government told you to pack up your things and move away from everything you knew to live on land you had never seen. That is exactly what happened to the family of Mountain Wolf Woman before she was born. Eager to return to Wisconsin, her family traveled hundreds of miles by canoe to the land they considered home. Once back home, however, they did not stay in one place, going to the same schools and jobs every day. Instead, they followed the seasons to hunt and gather food.

Author Biography

DIANE HOLLIDAY earned her doctorate in anthropology at UW-Madison and worked for the Wisconsin Historical Society for 15 years. She co-authored Digging and Discovery: Wisconsin Archaeology for young readers and has edited several other Wisconsin Historical Society publications. She and her family now live in Tucson, Arizona, where she works for an archaeological and historical consulting firm.
