In talking with many people, I am amazed at the interest in this subject. Because of media coverage, most people have heard about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, but they wonder what it really is. People are interested in PTSD because a friend or family member has been diagnosed with the disorder; they are interested because of the veterans coming home; they are interested because they have experienced a traumatic event and want to learn how to put it to rest. Therapists have said that they would recommend it to their clients. I hope to reach the adults that have lived with PTSD for years and let the youth know that even though they have been touched by trauma or domestic violence, they need not carry that weight alone. Then, most importantly, there are the war veterans now returning to civilian life. A book understanding the complexities of PTSD is needed now.
