Summary

Alden Nowlan is one of the most important writers of the twentieth century. Though he earned his living as a journalist, he is perhaps best known as a poet; he won the Governor-General's Award for his collection Bread, Wine, and Salt in 1967. He penned four novels as well as numerous non-fiction books.

Author Biography

Ronald Rees is a former professor of historical geography who taught at the University of Saskatchewan and, as adjunct professor, at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. He has several books on settlement in the Canadian prairies, garden history, science and industry in Wales, and on settlements in the Maritimes.
