Odile Decq and Benoit Cornette first rose to international prominence withheir administrative and social centre buildings for the Banque Populaire de'Ouest in Rennes in 1990, which has won 10 architectural awards. Based inaris, they featured in the French "40 under 40" exhibition in 1990 and haveince been successful in many European competitions, recently completing twoousing schemes in Paris, and working on large-scale urban projects such asheir 1994 commission to design the masterplan for the revitalization of theocks at Paris' Port de Gennevilliers.;Although Decq and Cornette have beenariously described as post-modernist, deconstructionist and high-tech, theirrchitecture is difficult to categorize: the distinctive hallmark of theirrchitecture is their use of metal, for its precision, and sophisticatedngineering techniques. This book charts the architects' working process inver 20 buildings and projects, featuring their highly original models, whichse colour as a coding system for materials and structural elements, and haven architectural significance in their own right.

Author Biography

Clare Melhuish is an architectural critic and anthropologist working in the field of modern architecture and cultural identity. She is the author of Modern House 2 (Phaidon, 2000) and editor of Architecture and Anthropology (AD Profile 124, Academy Editions 1996). She has written extensively for the architectural press and other publications since the mid-1980s.
