Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Pérez-Reverte recreates one of the most historical battles in Mexico’s conquest, the so called "Sad Night". Surrounded by mud, rain, and blood, Fate has a breakthrough on a night when death seems to give no truce.

On the evening of June 30th, 1520, in the outskirts of Tenochtitlán, Mexico suffered the greatest tragedy at the hands of Hernán Cortés during its conquest.

The Aztecs taste and relish their next revenge, while the Spaniards are ready to flee under the rain leaving behind the promise of gold for which they crossed the ocean; they must choose, to either take the loot for which so many fought and died for, or flee and save their own lives.

But, it’s not easy leaving behind the hope of a better future. While fighting for his life, a blue-eyed soldier is not willing to drop the sack full of precious metal; as he dreams of what could be, he fights on while carrying the gold bag filled with the weight of his future.
