Summary

In 1935, after a long test and production process, the first in a saga of tanks to become a hallmark was presented in Germany, the Panzerkampfwagen I. Their participation in the Spanish Civil War evidenced that, despite being excellent training tanks, neither their armour, nor their armament or engine could match real combat tanks of the time. However, their role in the Spanish Civil War and the early campaigns of the Second World War was certainly important.
