Summary

Italy, 1944. After a sergeant shoots an unarmed woman in cold blood, three soldiers that must learn if the Nazi army will surrender or not. They confront a terrible night, a hill that never ends, unbearable cold, sniper shots, and the possible betrayal of the old man who guides them. But above all else, they debate over the moral dilemma as witnesses of the assassination of that poor woman. Bausch uses his narrative prowess to reflect on the insanity of war and the difficulty of maintaining justice in such terrible circumstances.
