Summary

In A Political History of Early Christianity Allen Brent examines early Christianity and its triumph in Roman Empire. Starting with the description of the apocalyptic movement of the earliest form of Roman [Markan] Christianity, Brent argues that for Christianity to triumph, it was necessary to replace a radical project of 'root and branch' transformation of present society with one that could appeal to a wider constituency influenced by Graeco-Raman views of divine political order. Allen Brent was formerly Associate Professor in History in the University of North Queensland, Australia, and is now Affiliated Lecturer in the University of Cambridge, UK.
