Pieces of a Broken Heart

After a painful breakup, your mind will bounce between several highs and many lows. From depression over the seemingly unending hurt to the desire to give up on love altogether; the conviction that you must be unlovable and the desperation to cling to the happy feelings that started it all; and looking for ways things could have been different before allowing yourself to indulge in hope for the future—humans from the dawn of civilization have experienced the unique agony that comes from a breakup, and in this collection of poetry, readers will find empathy and even solace in knowing that they're not alone in having lost love.

In the LGBTQ community, negativity can be all too common. Sadly, it's become too easy to simply download an app and swipe right on the next guy without having to process the emotional side of a breakup. But this is the perfect time to turn your attention to yourself, and make sure you're giving yourself everything you need. After all, at the end of the day, you're the only one dealing with your emotions. Take care of yourself. Know you are loved!

Jake Houston was born in California where his father was stationed as a Marine. Moving around a lot as a military brat, his family later settled in a small town in Arizona where he was raised as the middle child of eight kids.

His mother's love of photography led him to want to be on the other side of the lens. Academically, he excelled in the performing arts, giving him the advantage in the performing arts academy in his high school. This led to modeling, which gave him the opportunity to be a part of many runways, magazines spreads and TV commercials. Still wanting to try something new, he then began to write. Finding his voice in heartache, he wrote his first book, "Pieces Of A Broken Heart".

He is a proud supporter and member of the LGBTQ community, and has taken part in various community service projects aimed at helping LGBTQ youth. Giving back to the community has always been a part of his core values and he enjoys continuing to help and take part in charities in his hometown.
