The most defining quality of this book, and something the author and illustrator went to great lengths to articulate, is that everything about this story is true: the characters, how the two friends met, their physical expressions, and even the local pet shop they frequent are all captured in the beautiful artwork and website.

This is my first book. I do not think I would have written one if it was not for Brinkley. For years we were without a dog; thinking we would never be able to replace our dearest Springer Spaniel, Shauna Wiggles. But in September 2004 Brinkley came into our lives and changed us forever. Watching Brinkley grow has taught and reminded me of the simplicities of life and what is important. He is the light of my life and my inspiration to tell his story. Brinkley, my husband Carl, and myself spend lazy dog-day afternoons living in Northern California.
