A symbol‘s standpoint is determined by the person looking at it. Ultimately, the observer decides what it really stands for. For it is by no means the case that a symbol evokes the same associations with everyone. Let us just take one of the most well-known: the cross. For some it represents salvation, for others primarily a burden to carry, whereas others again see in it repression through El priest‘s caste and for some it just symbolizes an ideology sinking into pluralism. Depending on the origin and personality structure of the observer, symbols are interpreted in a whole host of ways.
