In 2008 and early 2009, even into 2010, there were worries about the bird flu and the swine flu. This was to be the worst disaster of the modern world. The flu was predicted to be a worldwide pandemic where thousands of people would be hospitalized and over half would lose their lives. The flu was going to have devastating effects on the world. The workforce would be cut by a third and be out sick for several weeks. The world and the healthcare system would not look the same after it was over. I work as a Paramedic, and we had meetings on how we would be affected and how we could protect ourselves. It was predicted that a third of our workforce would be out and our call volume would double. It was going to be a very tough task to overcome. It would be devastating at times till the waves would pass. People were getting vaccines and inoculations to help prevent the upcoming disaster. By the grace of God, none of the bad things happened, only a few people were sick, they were isolated from the population, and the crisis was averted. It was a horrible time for me; I was going through a divorce from a marriage of thirty years. It was a very dark time in my life. I had a lot of time on my hands and began drawing parallels between what was happening in my life to what was going on in the world. I realized that the real plague on humanity had become divorce. It has caused more pain and sorrow than the flu ever thought about causing. It has changed lives forever. It has a far-reaching effect, even down to second and third generations. More than half of the marriages today end in divorce. Homes are wrecked, and children are left without fathers or mothers. It is a sad day for humanity. What are we doing about it? There are no meetings, no planning, and no thoughts of how to deal with this growing problem, yet more than half of us will go through it! When is the plague going to stop? When is the pandemic on the family going to come to an end? What is the cure? Can it be stopped?
