Mark Henderson worked for many years as an art historian at a leading cultural institution in Los Angeles but is now a full-time photographer.
After living in Southern California for almost 20 years, Henderson recently moved to the town in which he was born and raised in texas.
Although he continues to work in Los Angeles, Henederson shoots primarily in Texas, and most of the images for SUBURBAN Pleasures were shot in his new home there. Henderson's work appears regularly in Men, FRESHMEN, and UNZIPPED magazines, and his images have been featured in MANNER, BEAUTIFULMAG. EU, DNA, and other publications. Highlights of his work are also included in MEN: TWENTY FIVE YEARS IN PHOTOGRAPHY and the new coffee table book published by Bruno Gmunder, BEAUTIFULVISION, THE MEN OF BEAUTIFULMAG.EU.
For many North Americans, the word suburb suggests open space, peaceful living, green lawns, fresh air, an escape from the fast pace and grit of city life. Owning a house in the suburbs is, for many people, a mandatory component of the "American Dream". But what sort of lives do people really lead behind closed doors, just beyond the picket fences, trimmed hedges and manicured lawns of many suburban houses? As he did in his first publication, HOUSEHOLD IDOLS, photographer Mark Henderson opens the doors of his private home and reveals his own version of suburban living, complete with a two car garage, a swimming pool and a seemingly endless parade of the sexiest male models in the business---all of whom have apparently made themselves "at home."
