Author Biography

Lea Lane headed up the extensive update for this new second edition. Lea has been a columnist for Gannett Suburban newspapers, a TV travel and lifestyle reporter, managing editor of the newsletter Travel Smart, and coauthor of a book on cruises. She is a major contributor to guidebooks for Greece and Italy, and is the author of The Unofficial Guide to Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns in New England. Lea lives in Miami, Florida. Joe Surkiewicz is the lead writer of four Unofficial Guides and the author of two mountain bike guidebooks for Menasha Ridge Press. Joe penned our Miami-Dade County, The Florida Keys, and Everglades National Park chapters for the last edition of the guide. He lives in Baltimore with attorney/soulmate/best-riding-buddy Ann Lembo and their two ornery (but insufferably cute) cats. Marcia Levin wrote our Broward County, Southwest Florida, and Planning chapters for the last edition of the guide, and has called South Florida home for most of her life. A veteran travel writer, she has authored several guidebooks and written about Florida, the Caribbean, and cruising for newspapers, magazines, and the Internet. Marcia is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers, as well as a board member of the society. She and her husband live in Hollywood, Florida. Trish Riley personally inspected and rated every hotel property in the guide. She is an independent journalist who enjoys documenting her travels to help others make the best choices to ensure their traveling pleasure. She also writes about families, health, and environmental issues to bring beneficial information to readers. A member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the Society of Environmental Journalists, Trish's work is published in many newspapers, magazines, and custom publications. Marli Guzetta, a native South Floridian, wrote our dining and nightlife sections for Palm Beach and Broward Counties. She contributes regularly to New Times Broward/Palm Beach and Miami New Times. She's also worked at Marie Claire, Out, and Family Life magazines. Her writing has appeared in Parenting magazine, South Florida's Sun-Sentinel, Houston Press, Cleveland Scene, The Pitch, and Gainesville magazine. Currently, she splits her time between South Florida and Gainesville, where she is a graduate student in the University of Florida's creative writing program. Karen Feldman wrote the nightlife and dining sections for our Southwest Florida chapter. Her specialties include food, dining, and travel. Her articles have been published in newspapers and magazines across the country. She's authored two books on fund-raising events for non-profit groups. Karen lives in Fort Myers, Florida. Tara Solomon contributed the shopping and nightlife sections for the Miami-Dade chapter and the nightlife section for The Keys. She is a writer and owner of a multi-disciplinary marketing and creative arts firm, Tara, Ink., based in Miami Beach. Her weekly advice column for The Miami Herald, "The Advice Diva," is syndicated through Knight-Ridder. Still affectionately referred to as "The Queen of the Night," Tara penned a nightlife column for The Herald from 1993 to 1998. Her work has been published in numerous national and local publications. Terry Zarikian has served as culinary editor of Selecta Magazine for the last 16 years. He owned the critically acclaimed L'Allouete restaurants from 1983 to 1985. He is also the founder of Shapiro and Zarikian, Inc, a public relations, special events, and promotions company. Terry wrote our dining sections for Miami-Dade and The Keys.
