Summary

To be or not to be really is the question for one of the main characters in this novel. Ali - a semi-immortal who is enamored with Teresa Bellisima - a woman living in 16th century Spain - loses her to the circumstances of the time. He rediscovers her in the present - only it is not her; rather, it is a woman who resembles her. Teresa McMillan, a modern-day replica of his lost love, feels a strong connection to Ali - a connection deeper than a modern interpretation of attraction. This can best be explained as deja vu. Ali's fervent love for Teresa, though honorable, is forbidden by the cult to which he belongs that has kept him alive for the past eight centuries. Ali is a top member of the Order of Legions of Solomon's Temple which is a cult that was established in the twelfth century. He and the members of this cult are part human, part Djinni. Their cult has always been reclusive and they are strictly forbidden from marrying and forming families. Teresa Mcmillan is a renowned opera singer who is at the heart of Ali's fascination in present-day. Ali subtly stalks the singer until he is able to get her attention and begin a relationship with her. The love is growing between them very quickly but so is the mystery. Teresa senses something odd about Ali but this creates undeniable attraction between the two of them. As Ali and Teresa's love affair deepens, Ali#xE2;#xAC;"s co-leaders, Anwar and Chi Khan, sense that this love affair is going too far seek ways to end it. For the sake of the Order, Anwar introduces misinformation to Teresa in order to encourage her suspicions of Ali. This causes the love affair to spiral out of control into emotions of fear, confusion, bitterness and passion between both Ali and Teresa. In the end, will Ali succumb to love for Teresa and betray a cult that has been his way of life for hundreds of years? Author M.L. Childs will answer this question in a powerfully riveting tale of passionate and forbidden love.
