Summary

This amazingly compact volume opens into an entire world of images. Literally, hundreds of photos taken from around the Earth show its most beautiful landscapes and built environments from an aerial perspective and all in striking color and detail. Produced by the world's greatest photographers, these images allow us to see the views, patterns, lights, and colors of an entire planet at a single glance.Readers embark on a spectacular aerial trip where they see the world's treasures from rarely achieved vantage points-made possible through the art and daring of the world's best photographers. A series of breath taking images come into view: the deep canyons of North America, the dense forests of South America, the dizzying peaks of the Himalayas and the Alps, the lunar colors of the great deserts, as well as the pyramids, the Great Wall of China, prehistoric villages, medieval towns of Europe, and the huge metropolises of the third millennium. A short description introduces each chapter dedicated to a particular aspect of the Earth, and the photos are accompanied by identifying captions. Not just a book but an engaging visual experience, The World has much to offer readers of all ages, from armchair travelers to seasoned voyagers to those just beginning to probe the world's vast wonders.
