Author Biography

Kathryn Morton has been a journalist, reviewer, editorial writer, and essayist for 30 years, with work appearing in, among other places, The Washington Post, The Virginia-Pilot, Mademoiselle, various literary journals, and on the cover of the New York Times Book Review. Changing focus at age 40, she became a Jewish educator, teaching religious studies and Hebrew and preparing children to become bar and bat mitzvah. She is now Director of Education and Cultural Arts for Temple Israel, in Norfolk, Virginia. Her scholarship is impeccable. As a creator of Judaica, she made a Torah binder in memory of her son Kenneth and installed it at Ohef Sholom Temple on the day the lad would have turned 13. More happily, she appliqued a tallit for her husband and embroidered one that her daughter Eleanor wore as cantorial soloist at Beth Boruk in Richmond, Indiana. Son Hank and step-daugher Anne have seen her handiwork and have asked instead for a copy of this book wherein the creators are matchless in their artistry
