Summary

This book, which was a winner in the SWG John V. Hicks writing contest, deals with the two important men in the life of Pat Krause, her husband, Frank; and her father, Allen Blair. More specifically, it deals with their deaths -- Frank's coming after a long battle with cancer, her father's with a heart attack. The result is a powerful love story which reveals a great sense of loss for which readers will feel empathy. There are 19 pieces in the ms, many of them extremely moving - such as the award-winning title story, Webs, Countdown, The Snowman, plus many scenes in other stories). Though Pat's relationship with Frank and his struggle with cancer are at the heart of the book, the sections on her father also fit--though they could be more carefully integrated into the book. The ms. contains lots of good work: lively writing which connects with the reader on an emotional level, plus flashes of Krausian humour. The writing is candid and intimate.
