Author Biography

Angela Kucia is a Clinical Practice Consultant in Acute Cardiac Assessment at The Lyell McEwin and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals in Adelaide, South Australia. Angela was a clinical nurse manager in coronary care for many years and completed a PhD before moving to the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of South Australia as a lecturer where she developed the postgraduate cardiovascular nursing program. Although Angela has since returned to clinical practice, she continues to lecture in the program and remains actively involved in cardiovascular research. Angela is a past recipient of the South Australian Nurse of the Year Award and the prestigious South Australian Premier’s Scholarship in Nursing.

Tom Quinn is Professor of Clinical Practice at the University of Surrey, and was previously the UK's first Professor of Cardiac Nursing (at Coventry University) and a Consultant Cardiac Nurse. Tom has extensive clinical experience and was closely involved in developing and implementing the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease. He was seconded to the Department of Health as Section Head for the Heart Team from 1999–2001, and was later heart disease programme Lead for a strategic health authority and adviser in emergency cardiac care to the NHS Modernisation Agency, and latterly Regional Head of cardiovascular disease, stroke and research for a major regional ambulance service. He was chairman of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) working group on cardiovascular nursing in the mid–1990s and a member of the European Task Force on chest pain and currently the ESC working group on acute cardiac care; He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and a member of the British Cardiac Society. Professor Quinn was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Nursing for his 'outstanding contribution' to cardiac nursing.
