Thrust into action following the declaration of the War on Terror in the wake of the September 11th, 2001 attacks, US Army Apache units have been at the forefront in the fight against Taleban and al-Qaeda forces in Afghanistan, followed by the conflict in Iraq. Apaches sought out the enemy and brought overwhelming firepower to bear in numerous actions in Operation Enduring Freedom. In March 2003 Apache units once again went to war in Iraq, although Operation Iraqi Freedom was to be very different to Operation Desert Storm 12 years earlier. The gunship pilots fought a difficult and dirty war as both an anti-tank platform and a quick reaction force for units engaged on the ground. The Apache is still involved in operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and this volume details the campaigns in both countries through the experiences of frontline AH-64 crews. Book jacket.

Author Biography

Jonathan Bernstein is a full-time research historian for a major military museum in the US, specialising in the collection of oral histories from servicemen involved in the Vietnam War.
