This major reference work is the fourth volume in the series Arthurian Literature in the Middle Ages. Principally focused on the production, dissemination, and evolution of Arthurian material from the twelfth to fifth centuries, this volume covers writing in both verse and prose, and addresses such classics as the Tristan legend, theVulgate Cycle, and the Grail Continuations.

Author Biography

Glyn Burgess is senior fellow and emeritus professor of French, University of Liverpool. He is the author of over twenty books and fifty articles in lexicology, short narratives in Old French, Wace, the legend of St Brendan, and outlaw stories. Karen Pratt is senior lecturer in French, King’s College London. She has edited three volumes of scholarly essays and was assistant editor of Woman Defamed and Woman Defended: an anthology of medieval texts, a key source-book for courses on medieval women and misogyny. Her publications on Arthurian literature include articles on the Queste del Saint Graal and the Roman de Silence, and a monograph on La Mort le roi Artu.
