Summary

During the past twenty years neuroscientists have conducted research that has great implications for improved teaching. This is due in large part to a better understanding of how the brain works. Brain-Compatible Differentiated Instruction for English Language Learnersis written for teachers looking for solid instructional practices that work well with mainstream as well as English Language Learners (ELLs.) With even just a cursory understanding of how the brain functions, we are better equipped to assist ELLs. Brain-compatible teaching offers multi-modal and sensory ways to approach all learners. Given what we now know about learner differences, brain-compatible teaching provides the tools for learning, problem solving, and creating. The author provides unique lesson plans that will empower students to understand how they learn. When children have opportunities to learn through their strengths, unexpected and positive cognitive, emotional, and social changes will appear. This book is intended for both pre-and in-service ESL and mainstream educators.
