Summary

The furniture, jewelry, recreational objects, ceramics, fabric arts, and other designs that emerged from the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s California would come to identify its outdoorsy, eccentric, sometimes entirely funky persona. And the best of these were exhibited, sometimes idolized, through a series of popular shows at the Pasadena Art Museum.California Designis a detailed retrospective of these exhibitions and the West Coast style they epitomized, replete with hundreds of innovative photographs showcasing the works in all their original glory. Author Biography

Jo Lauria is an independent curator of decorative arts and the author of several books. She lives in Los Angeles.

Suzanne Baizerman is Curator of Crafts and Decorative Arts at the Oakland Museum of California. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Toni Greenbaum is an art historian specializing in jewelry and metalwork. She has written extensively on the subject for numerous publications, including ARTnews , Studies in the Decorative Arts , Wallpaper* , and Metalsmith . She curated and wrote the jew
