Summary

The Institute of Jewish Studies, founded in 1954 by the late Alexander Altmann, is dedicated to the promotion of all aspects of scholarship in Jewish studies and related fields. Its programmes include public lectures, seminars, and annual conferences. All lectures and conferences are open to the general public.

Author Biography

Allon Gal is a historian, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, and on the editorial board of the Journal of Modern Jewish Studies, Oxford. His recent major publication (chief editor) is World Regional Zionism: Geo-Cultural Dimensions, 3 volumes (Hebrew, 2009). Athena S. Leoussi, Ph.D. (LSE), is co-director of European Studies at the University of Reading, UK; visiting senior fellow in the Department of Government, LSE; and co-editor of Nations and Nationalism. Her publications include Nationalism and Ethnosymbolism (edited with Steven Grosby, 2006). Anthony D. Smith is emeritus professor of Ethnicity and Nationalism at LSE, UK. He is president of the Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism and editor-in-chief of Nations and Nationalism. His most recent book is Ethnosymbolism and Nationalism (2009).
