When you're the only human caught in a paranormal war, high school can get a little tricky in this high-stakes sequel to Velvet.
With Adrian's brother trapped in hell, the War Council has made Stony Creek their base-of-operations, but Caitlin has a bad feeling they're more interested in her than in finding Lucian. Trapped in a sea of conspiracies and lies, Caitlin and Adrian struggle to hide their real relationship. If their true feelings were discovered, every trace of Adrian would be wiped from Caitlin's memories, leaving her alone and completely without allies against the Council or Adrian's father, while Adrian would be forced into a 100-year coma-long enough for Caitlin to grow old and die before he was allowed to awaken once more.
Constantly looking over her shoulder, Caitlin still makes headway with her fashion designs, trying to get on with life amid a crazy paranormal manhunt. Meanwhile, Adrian asks dangerous questions about the Council's real interest in Caitlin, and why her protection detail was sabotaged. But when the truth finally comes to light, the consequences are unimaginable.
And the question still haunts them both: even if they survive, how will they deal with the fact that Caitlin is mortal, and Adrian is not?
