Author Biography

John Kirk was Professor Emeritus of Work and Cultural Studies at London Metropolitan University, UK. He is the author of Class, Culture and Social Change, The British Working Class in the 20th Century, and with Christine Wall, Work and Identity: Historical and Cultural Contexts (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011). Sylvie Contrepois is Senior Researcher at London Metropolitan University's Working Lives Research Institute, UK, and Member of the CRESPPA CNRS institute in France. Sylvie is the author of Syndicats, la nouvelle donne: Enquete au Coeurd'un bassin industriel et ouvrier and joint editor of Globalizing Employment Relations (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011). Steve Jefferys is Professor of European Employment Studies and Director of London Metropolitan University's Working Lives Research Institute, UK. He is the author of Management. Work and Welfare in Western Europe An Historical and Contemporary Analysis (with Mick Carpenter), and of Liberi, Egatit and Fraternit at Work: Changing French Employment Relations and Management.
