Old Laguna Pueblo
Old Laguna Pueblo is located west of Albuquerque.
There are several small villages which are all part of the Laguna tribe, but Old Laguna is the most famous. It is a picturesque hilltop village with a lovely old adobe church, plastered white. Laguna is famous for its pottery and jewelry as well as its contributions to literature and photography. On Christmas Eve, the tiny church at the top of the hill is likely to be outlined in colored electric Christmas lights. Deer Dances are performed inside the old church in the wee hours of Christmas morning after Old Laguna's midnight mass. Dances are sometimes held at Old Laguna and all the other small Laguna villages on Christmas Day, but the Christmas Eve dances in the church at Old Laguna are the most important. The village of Old Laguna also dances on January 6.
