Summary

Lucio Mariani is known throughout Europe as one of Italy's most important contemporary writers. Echoes of Memory presents for the first time in English the full range of his poetry. His elegant and wonderfully subtle poems develop through assonance and spare imagery, drawing on classical allusions without leaving the contemporary space. Whether because of their diamond-sharp incisiveness or their swirling musicality, these poems hit home, producing deeply felt revelations. Author Biography

LUCIO MARIANI is the author of eight volumes of poetry including the recent Qualche Notizia del Tempo (Some News of Time, 2001), as well as a volume of essays, a collection of short stories, and translations of works by Cesar Vallejo, Tristan Corbiere and Yves Bonnefoy. ANTHONY MOLINO's published translations include the award-winning The Contagion of Matter (2000), by Valerio Magrelli. THOMAS HARRISON is Professor of Italian at the University of California, Los Angeles.
