Summary

The majority of engineering students are likely to be affected directly or indirectly by environmental law at one stage or another in their careers due to the evolving and advancing environmental law and policy agendas emanating from the EU and UK. Environmental Law for Engineers is the first textbook written specifically for engineering students to address environmental law issues from the specialised perspective of environmental engineering. It focuses on the key legal requirements that require implementation of key environmental engineering techniques and illustrates how developments in technologies relevant to engineers have resulted in the implementation of specific environmental laws. It is suitable for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students in a number of engineering courses, particularly civil and environmental engineering. Each chapter includes a section on the relevant science and engineering issues, the key EU directives and an explanation of these linked to the key science and engineering issues and the key legal issues, and a section on UK law if relevant. To help understanding, the book has diagrams of key processes, highlights illustrating where a provision of environmental law is relevant, case law summaries, tables of the key legal instruments showing what they do, crib notes, and issues to think about.
