Summary

The Family behind the Firm Garrard & Co.is a vignette into the lives of some of the Garrard family during their one hundred and twenty years of control of the leading jewellers emporium Garrard & Company. The family took over the business in 1792, successfully developing it to become the crown jewellers from the middle of the nineteenth century. The firm's craftsmen and designers produced some of the most exotic jewellery of the time, and the establishment of the Garrard shop and offices in India and the life of members of the family there paints a glittering picture of colonial existence as it was lived at the time of the British Raj. This intimate family history, enriched with personal photographs, paints a brilliant panorama of domestic life of the time, set against the backdrop of privilege, wealth and the glories of the empire.

Author Biography

Annie McCaffry was brought up in Scotland. She is an international speaker, workshop facilitator and writer. She has worked with individuals and groups for over forty years, and continues to explore the relationship between movement, sound and silence in unlocking the patterns of the past. She has a private consultancy and is married to Lord Norrie.

Her first book, Journey to Myself, describes the author’s experiential understanding of the family patterns we inherit and our ability to release the invisible hold they have on us. Her second book, Living at the Edge, tells of her time spent with the medicine men in the Peruvian jungle, of their ceremonies and the value they put on understanding ancestral patterns. She has also edited The Life Storey of a Highland Ghillie.

Now, in The Family behind the Firm Garrard & Co., she takes us back to her childhood days spent with her grandparents, describing the rich influence that they had on her life.
