Summary

In this, his second book on Fife’s railways, local enthusiast and photographer Michael Mather delves into the past with a selection of photographs mainly from the 1950s and 1960s, but also dating back to the beginning of the twentieth century, along with some from more recent years, covering the main, secondary and branch lines, locomotives, trains and infrastructure of the county’s railways, most of which has now disappeared. While steam locomotives predominate, first generation diesels, most of which are now history, are also featured, along with industrial systems and their locomotives, accidents, Scotland’s first preserved railway at Lochty and a selection of railwayana.

Author Biography

Michael Mather is a bus driver with Stagecoach East Scotland, based at Glenrothes Depot, and was a delivery and fork lift driver prior to this. Before taking up driving he worked for 18 years in a grain mill which supplied barley to the Scotch Whisky industry. His interest in railways goes back 50 years and he has been photographing railway subjects for most of this time. He is a member of the support crew which looks after the two main line registered steam locomotives, 60009 Union of South Africa and 61994 The Great Marquess.
