Summary

On 16 September 1944 an RAF fighter pilot was shot down near Arnhem, the day before Operation Market Garden. He was captured, beaten and then murdered. War Crimes investigators brought four Germans to trial, one was executed but others involved were never caught. The man who was executed had fired the fatal shot ls"under ordersrs", but the man who gave the order has not been found yet. This is the compelling story of ordinary family men who became cold-blooded killers, and of Spitfire pilot Bill Maloney who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and lost his life to them.

Author Biography

Steve Darlow is the author of Lancaster Down! (2000), Sledgehammers for Tintacks (2002), D-Day Bombers (2004), Victory Fighters (2005), Five of the Few (2006) and Five of the Many (2007), all for Grub Street. Steve has had a distinguished basketball career culminating in sixteen England caps. He is now National Club Development Manager for the English Basketball Association and coaches basketball, football and cricket to children.
