Author Biography

Jewelle Gomez is a writer, activist, and author. The Gilda Stories, winner of two Lambda Literary Awards, is her first novel. Her other books include Oral Tradition, Forty-Three Septembers and Don't Explain. She is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council and the San Francisco Arts Commission. Her fiction, essays, criticism and poetry have appeared in numerous periodicals, including The New York Times, The Village Voice, The Advocate, Ms. Magazine, Essence and Black Scholar. She lives in San Francisco.
