This workbook is divided into four sections: geo data base framework design, data creation and management, workflow optimization, and labeling and symbolizing.

This textbook offers a fine workbook divided into sections packed with tutorials and step-by-step practices. Exercises reinforce concepts and are supplemented by a DVD containing a 180-day trial version of ArcGIS 10 software and the data used in these exercises.

GIS Tutorial 3 was designed to be used for advanced coursework or individual study.

Author Biography

David W. Allen, GISP, has more than twenty-five years of experience with GIS and digital mapping in the private and municipal sectors. As GIS manager for the City of Euless, Texas, Allen designs data structures and custom applications from scratch. He also serves as program coordinator for GIS at Tarrant County College in Arlington, Texas, where he helped found one of the first GIS degree programs in the state and helped to establish a state standard for GIS degree programs.


Jeffery M. Coffey, GISP, is currently the GIS manager for the Tarrant Regional Water District in Fort Worth, Texas, where he manages large GIS implementation, analysis, and integration projects. Coffey taught GIS classes at the University of North Texas and University of Texas at Arlington and helped establish an accredited GIS program at Tarrant County College where he currently teaches and serves on the GIS program's advisory board.
