Summary

In 2001, after the death of my mother, everything about my poetry changed. Suddenly I was writing about drowning, fires, broken limbs, being violated, abandonment- even eyeballs! Not only did the themes change, but so did my style. I was suddenly writing with a surreal tone- with lots of strange metaphors. With the recent death of my father in 2003, I found myself again writing even more of these poems. What was going on? In one defining moment, I finally realized I was grieving with poetry. The themes had come furiously-like a gutteral cry from the soul! I was re-enacting their deaths by re-enacting the separation of body and soul. Perhaps I was foretelling what my own death would be like. I was facing that brutal word: mortality.I felt stripped by the loss of my parents- and yet by grieving with my poetry I found my soul- and a way to permanently feel close to them. I could be on the same plane as they now were-in some dimension I couldn't quite touch, yet could "feel" with my very core.I'm at peace now- knowing I will see them again. As souls meeting in the afterlife.Alas, I present you with my journey to the soul."

Author Biography

ANASTASIA CLARK is a poet.and a freelance writer, too!). She grew up in Framingham, MA -a place which old and have still calls her name to this day-especially in October. She is 44 years been writing poetry in her spare time for over 30 years. She has always looked forward to spending her middle-aged years hunched over a typewriter pumping out poetry. In this dream, She gazes out onto a lake- from a big old cabin with creaky floors, brass beds, hand-made quilts, a fireplace, and a huge porch lined with rocking chairs. She is working on my next best seller, while her devoted publicist staves off editors, publishers and curious fans. . . . In reality, Anastasis has a 20 yr. old daughter, 16 yr. old son-and even a baby granddaughter! She is married and currently resides in South Florida. She works a full time day job. She writes poetry in the wee hours of the morning-in her pajamas- with a cup of coffee by her side. She has learned that the life of a poet is simply the life of an ordinary person. It isn't all autographs and book tours and readings. Writing poetry is a way of evaluating onewrongs in one's 's day or one's life, a way of reconciling the life, a way of going everywhere without ever leaving the house, a way of resolving chaos- and for Anastaisia, it is the ONLY way to breathe. . .
