Summary

The objective of this title is to provide an introduction to Norwegian economic thought through a wide historic span. The emphasis is on the concepts and ways of thinking about economic issues throughout Norwegian History. Elements of economic thinking are followed from the Norse period, through the Danish Norwegian realm to mercantilism and the influence of classical economics on Norwegian economic thought in the 19th century. After that follows the adaptation of the neoclassical revolution and modern economic thought as strongly influenced by the Norwegian Nobel Laureates Ragnar Frisch and Trygve Haavelmo. Towards the end of the 20th the national traits of economic thinking tends to be overshadowed by the mainstream of international economic thought. Norway has throughout most of her history has been on the periphery of Europe and periods are dated somewhat differently than in the major countries.
