Summary

From a Manhattan apartment and California ranch house to a 250 year-old Japanese home in the hills of Kamakura, At Home with Japanese Design explores the beauty of cross-cultural design -- inside and out. Authors Jean Mahoney and Peggy Rao use traditional objects -- including tatami mats and shoji screens -- and intricate art forms to compare and contrast the beauty of tradition in modern Eastern and Western settings. A design book, a shopping guide, and a cultural history all in one, At Home with Japanese Design is a stunning tour of forty-nine homes that exemplify the Japanese aesthetic of serenity and simplicity.
